Welcome to Season 40. We are kicking off with a Second Chance for contestants from Season 37. (If you’re wondering what’s going on this season & where these contestants came from, I wrote a quick explainer last week.)
I’ll be continuing to publish all my full recaps right here on Substack, but you may also see me posting on various social media (links on my Linktree). I’m still trying to figure out what social media site feels right for live Jeopardy! commentary beyond Twitter though!

Original Host: Alex Trebek
I LOVE Cody’s purple shirt, which coordinates nicely with the bi pride flag pin he also wore in 2020. His outfit tonight is upgraded with the addition of a tie, slightly loosened for a perfect laid back vibe!
P.S. Cody had the best anecdote and it was fun watching him act out the story!
David Maybury
Original Airdate: 2/22/21
Original Occupation: magnetics engineer
Original Hometown: originally Richmond, VA
Original Host: Mike Richards
David is rocking a green argyle sweater vest and (I have been informed) a DINOSAUR tie! If you’ve been reading my recaps for a while, you know I am a big fan of argyle prints. And dinosaur prints! What a great combo.
I also asked David about his pin - it looked like a Scorpio zodiac symbol to me. He confirmed that it is actually one of a pair of Scorpio earrings like Mattea wore on the show, fashioned into a magnetic lapel “pin”!
Susan Schulman
Original Airdate: 5/13/21
Original Occupation: baker
Original Hometown: Alexandria, VA
Original Host: Bill Whitaker
Susan wore similar shades of maroon in both of her Jeopardy! appearances. I like the addition of a sweater tonight, and the combo of maroon and navy is a great choice.
Ken Jennings
This is the 4th time Ken has worn this tie, the first time was during last season’s ToC. I’ve always called it plaid but looking at it tonight it has a more intricate pattern than I thought.
