It’s Day 7 of the Jeopardy Invitational Tournament! (The 7th of 9 Quarterfinal games.) Here’s the full lineup for the JIT.
I am SO excited to see these iconic contestants, some of whom I GREW UP watching, back on the Jeopardy! stage!
Sam Kavanaugh
I love that Sam got to talk about his outfit in his anecdote! In case you missed it, his sweater vest was hand-knit (and hand-dyed!) for him by a friend. And his nieces made his tissue paper buttonneire bouttonaire flower!
In his original run & 2021 ToC, Sam had an assortment of outfits. I really liked his patterned shirts in the ToC.
Though Pluto.tv features a selection of episodes through Season 37, none of Sam’s Season 35 episodes are currently available.
Chuck Forrest
Ohh this plaid suit is great (glad it passed wardrobe inspection, sometimes repeating patterns like this get nixed if they mess with the cameras). Back in the 80s (“back in MY day…”) when Chuck first appeared on Jeopardy, it was standard for men to wear a suit and tie on the show, and that’s what he has worn in all the Jeopardy photos I’ve seen of him.
Pluto.tv has three of Chuck’s Battle of the Decades episodes (free, on demand), starting with Season 30, ep 6766.
What a treat to get to see Chuck, who literally wrote a book on Jeopardy strategy, play the game again!
Monica Thieu
Wow wow wow, this sweater is AMAZING! The color is so bright, and the color-blocking on the sleeves is stunning. The crop/shrug style is unique, and I’m wondering if it might be hand knit?
Also love the hair and glasses!
Here is a link to an interview with Monica where she talks about her FASCINATING research, which she mentioned in her anecdote.
Just one episode featuring Monica is currently available on Pluto (her ToC quarterfinal - Season 29, Ep 6545)
Ken Jennings
Spotted Stage Manager Jimmy at the judges table during the FJ bumper tonight.
You too can be as stylish as Sam Kavanaugh both on and off the Jeopardy court!
JeoparDAY is coming up (Saturday??) and if you’re planning to take the Anytime Test, I have some resources for you!
Jeopardy has a Youtube Playlist with previous contestant tests from 2017-2020. I recently put some time into creating this spreadsheet to grade my answers and check my score while practicing with those videos. Feel free to make a copy and use it for yourself! There is a separate tab for each video test.
watch the test video with the spreadsheet side-by-side
type your answers into the spreadsheet
when you're done, unhide the answer column
check the boxes for correct answers
the sheet will calculate your score (35+ is widely rumored to be "passing")
