It’s Day 9 of the Jeopardy Invitational Tournament! (The LAST of 9 Quarterfinal games.) Here’s the full lineup for the JIT.
Lilly Chin
It’s always fun seeing people with the name Lilly (especially spelled the same as mine!) It doesn’t happen often on Jeopardy though - a quick search of the J-Archive site comes up with only 2 “Lilly”s (and 4 “Lily”s).
This 3/4 sleeve red button up shirt is a great color and style (and matches her red lipstick!) Lilly wore a very similar outfit in her previous ToC appearance, and of course she wore her MIT sweatshirt for the College tournament.
You may remember when Lilly’s 2017 College tournament FJ response went viral.
But if you haven’t followed her in the meantime, you may not realize that Lilly wrote a paper featuring her first-hand experience with internet fame. It’s entitled “How to Survive a Public Faming: Understanding 'The Spiciest Memelord' via the Temporal Dynamics of Involuntary Celebrification." (There’s also this excellent podcast interview discussing it.)
I’m interested to know how other contestants feel about the effects of “involuntary celebrification” in the context of their own experiences. I imagine many contestants can relate, especially when their appearance involved a viral moment. (If anyone is doing research/collecting stories about this, please let me read it!)
Colby Burnett
Colby is looking very dapper in his navy & black combo! I like his glasses too, he looks very distinguished.
Colby wore a lot of black/grey/white in past appearances (though not exclusively!) I like that he wore a tie in almost all his episodes.
Sam Buttrey
There’s that ray of sunshine we’ve all been waiting for! Sam wore this happy yellow sweater during Masters last year, and it’s one of my favorites!
Here is a selection of Sam’s previous outfits (2021 Professors Tournament, 2022 ToC, 2023 Masters)
Ken Jennings
Loved getting to hear the patented Buttrey Bring It™ tonight!
JeoparDAY has passed, but if you’re planning to take the Anytime Test soon, I have some resources for you!
Jeopardy has a Youtube Playlist with previous contestant tests from 2017-2020. I recently put some time into creating this spreadsheet to grade my answers and check my score while practicing with those videos. Feel free to make a copy and use it for yourself! There is a separate tab for each video test.
watch the test video with the spreadsheet side-by-side
type your answers into the spreadsheet
when you're done, unhide the answer column
check the boxes for correct answers
the sheet will calculate your score (35+ is widely rumored to be "passing")
