Welcome to Day 1 of the first 14-day segment of the four-part Champions Wildcard that will last through December 18th and will feature 108 former champions (1, 2, and 3 day winners) from Season 37 and 38.
If that was a lot to digest, here’s a more visual explanation from the Jeopardy! website.
Andy at The Jeopardy! Fan also has a great preview of the contestants with some stats about their initial performances.
I’ll be continuing to publish all my full recaps right here on Substack, and maybe or maybe not posting on social media (links on my Linktree).
Burt Thakur
Burt is wearing a white shirt and black jacket, which is similar to what he wore in his first appearance (pictured below.)
Emily Seaman Hoy
Emily is braving the chilly Alex Trebek stage in a sleeveless tie-neckline blouse. She has a visible tattoo on her right arm (I thought it was a very round fish at first but I’m not sure??)
In her first appearance, she wore a similar shade of red but in a wrap-front style and 3/4 sleeves.
Dane Reighard
Dane is wearing a neutral grey sweater & a button down shirt, very similar to what he wore in his second game. I always like to see a cozy sweater outfit.
In Dane’s first game, he wore a neutral shirt and black blazer. This was when I was first starting to “review” each contestants outfit to my handful of Twitter followers and I remember being SO CRITICAL about Dane’s outfits and their lack of “flair.” It was unnecessarily mean, so I hope Dane forgives me with this recap!
Ken Jennings
Did y’all catch Ken respond “Que es nada?” when Dane answered “What is nada?” in “A Category About Nothing”? This whole category was a recycle of a category from Ken’s 75th game, which I was just watching last week and where Ken answered “Que es nada?” for the same clue.
Ken wore this red tie 4x last season, so this is the 5th time he has worn it.
We got a close shot of the audience at the very end of the episode tonight!
And I’m so glad they included Emily’s epic pyramid at the end of the show! What a fun moment for her family to share with Ken.
